About this spot

Moledo lies in northern Portugal at the mouth of the Rio Minho, which here forms the border with Spain. The long, sandy beach opens onto the open Atlantic, with swell and wind for surfers and kiters alike. The signature is the Nortada, the thermal northerly that on many days fills in around midday and holds until sunset; in the main season from May to October it reliably delivers around 20 to 25 knots. The water is Atlantic-cool. Kitesurfing and windsurfing are taught on one of the largest beaches in northern Portugal.
