Surf & Sail Makkum sits at De Holle Poarte right on the IJsselmeer in Friesland - the big, shallow freshwater lake behind the barrier dam that has been a safe, standing-depth place to learn for decades. The operation has been running here since 1981.
The line-up covers windsurfing, kitesurfing, wing surfing, catamaran sailing and SUP, as lessons or rental. The school is VDWS-recognised for windsurf, kite and catamaran and also QAW certified; all instructors are qualified. Tuition is in Dutch and German.
