The watersports centre at Aartalsee lake is a VDWS station in inland Hesse – the no-fuss option for learning windsurfing and SUP without driving to the coast. The reservoir gives you flat freshwater with no tide and no salt in your eyes, which makes the first steps noticeably calmer.
The VDWS beginner windsurf course runs 14 hours (12 practical, 2 theory), the advanced course 10 practical hours; SUP beginners start with 6 hours. Gear including a wetsuit is provided, and there is a large BIG-SUP board for groups. Sessions are arranged individually, so call ahead.
