About this spot
The Windsurfing-Club Hessenaue sails on the gravel-pit lake near Trebur-Hessenaue, south of Mainz in the Rhine-Main area. The lake is about 360 metres wide and over 400 metres long, with a flat, sandy entry and a large standing area. Thanks to low shoreline vegetation the wind comes through fairly clean, especially from the west.
The club has existed since 1977, and the first surfers turned up at the gravel pit with Tencate boards back in 1976. In 1996 the first VDWS basic-licence exams were held here. The well-kept rigging meadow has plenty of room. The spot is reserved for club members.
