About this spot
Zanzibar – Kiwengwa is a kitesurf, wingfoil and surf spot in Tanzania. Zanzibar's longest white sandy beach, on the east coast, with plenty of space for launching and landing. At low tide a sandbank forms with pool-like flat water; on the reef and pass in front of it there are waves for advanced riders. Trade wind 15–25 knots: Kaskazi from the NE (December–March) and Kusi from the SE (July–September), mostly side-onshore. Even at low tide a small lagoon stays deep enough for foiling.
The spot works best with wind from NE, E, SE; the windiest period is Dec–Mar, Jul–Sep. Depending on the wind you get flat water, chop or waves. It suits beginners, intermediates and advanced riders.
