About this spot
ION CLUB Safaga is located at the Shams Hotels in Soma Bay and has run from this site since 2003. The spot is broad and shallow, often glassy in the morning with a standing-depth area for beginners; through the day the wind shifts from offshore to side-shore and builds to 20–25 knots in the afternoon. Best season is March to November, most consistent May to September.
It teaches kitesurfing, windsurfing, wingfoiling and SUP; courses from age 12. Instructors speak English, Russian, German and Arabic. Rental and gear storage are available. A downwind classic is the trip to the offshore sandspit Tobia Island (about 4 km). Part of the international ION CLUB network.
