About this spot
Safaga – Shams Beach is a kitesurf, wingfoil and windsurf spot in Egypt. Station next to the Shams hotels on a long, gently sloping sandy beach, about 50 km south of Hurghada. In the morning the wind blows side-offshore from the left; around 11–12 o'clock it turns sideshore. In the afternoon mostly 15–25 kn; lessons in the standing-depth area or a small lagoon. The sand island of Tobia is less than 4 km away and is a popular downwinder destination. Separate zones for kiters and windsurfers; coral areas are marked.
The spot works best with wind from N; the windiest period is Mar–Jun, Sep–Nov. Expect choppy water most of the time. It suits beginners, intermediates and advanced riders.
