Jeffreys Bay – Supertubes
South Africa · Wellenreiten
About this spot
Supertubes lies in Jeffreys Bay east of Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) on South Africa's Eastern Cape coast. It is a long, fast, tubing right-hand point break and ranks among the best and most consistent right points in the world – a regular stop on the WSL Championship Tour.
The Supertubes section itself breaks for over 300 metres and is the heart of the wave. It works best on a southwest groundswell, more common here than windswell, combined with an offshore wind from west to west-southwest. When is the best time for Supertubes? The southern winter from June to August, when powerful lows from the Southern Ocean deliver clean, world-class swell – June is considered the most reliable month.
This is a pure surf spot for experienced wave riders: fast, powerful sections, rocks and busy lineups. Beginners are better off on the bay's gentler breaks.
