About this spot
Le Morne sits on the south-western tip of Mauritius, overlooked by the distinctive Le Morne Brabant monolith. The peninsula separates a large, shallow inner lagoon from an open reef. Inside you get flat to lightly choppy water depending on the tide, clear visibility and plenty of space – a reliable area for kite and wingfoil at all levels. Out front break the famous waves One Eye, one of the fastest and cleanest reef waves in the world, and, a little further along, Manawa, which can build to 3 metres on a high tide.
When is the best time to visit Le Morne? The season runs May to November – the Mauritian winter – with a consistent south-easterly trade wind around 15–25 knots. From December to March there is also a thermal wind, but it is less reliable. The lagoon suits beginners, while the waves outside are a playground for experienced wave riders.

Insider tips
Learn and cruise safely inside the lagoon; only take on the reef waves (One Eye, Manawa) with experience and ideally a local guide. Manawa works best at high tide. In 18–22 knots of south-easterly, a 9–11 m kite suits most riders around 75–80 kg.
⚠︎ Hazards
The reef in front of the lagoon is sharp and shallow – One Eye and Manawa are powerful reef waves with hard wipeouts, not for the inexperienced. In the lagoon, offshore wind and outgoing water at the reef passes can create current, so watch the tide and your position. Booties against coral and sea urchins are a good idea.
