Limnos – Keros Bay

Limnos – Keros Bay

Greece · Kitesurf · Windsurf · Wingfoil

About this spot

Keros Bay sits on the east coast of Limnos: a wide, gently shelving sandy bay backed by dunes, wetlands and salt flats. Inside, the water is standing-depth and smooth across a large area, while chop and small waves run further out, making it a versatile Aegean venue for kite, windsurf and wingfoil from beginner to seasoned rider.

The Meltemi blows here as a thermally enhanced north to northeast wind and is among the strongest in the Aegean. When is the wind strongest at Keros? From June to September the Meltemi reliably delivers 16 to 25 knots in the afternoon, with a season running May to October at 4 to 6 Bft. Keros is more of a daytime spot, with good wind from late morning into the afternoon and longer on windy days. Thanks to its undeveloped, natural setting, the bay is a classic camping and wild-riding venue.

Insider tips

Inside the bay the shallow flat water serves learners and freestyle, while chop and waves wait further out. On strong Meltemi days keep smaller kites ready, as the wind can push well past 25 knots.

⚠︎ Hazards

The Meltemi can build very strongly, so size down your gear in good time. This is a natural bay without dense infrastructure, so plan on self-reliance and self-rescue.
