About this spot
Mellieħa Bay (Għadira) is a kitesurf and windsurf spot in Malta. Għadira is Malta's largest sandy beach; the water stays only ankle-deep for about 50 m. The spot works best with the NW Majjistral, which in winter often blows at 5–6 Bft for 2–3 days at a time. Kiting is banned in the swimming zones from about June to September; in the high season a water sports corridor is separated off. Windsurf rental and lessons are available on site; there are no kite schools or kite rental on Malta.
The spot works best with wind from NW, NE, E; the windiest period is Oct–May. The water is mostly flat. It suits beginners and intermediates.
