About this spot

São Miguel do Gostoso is a fishing village on the Rio Grande do Norte coast, around 110 km north of Natal – at the "esquina do continente", the northeastern corner of Brazil. A steady easterly trade wind, reinforced by thermal effects, makes it one of the most wind-reliable spots in the world; in recent years it has risen to a top spot for wingfoil and freestyle kite.

The area is versatile: wide flat-water sections plus chop and isolated wave zones. On some stretches coral reefs create especially flat water at low tide, such as at the well-known Ponta do Santo Cristo, one of the windiest points anywhere. Which season is best? Wind blows for much of the year, most reliably July to February – core months October to February with roughly 95% wind probability and 18–30 knots.

With its mix of flat water and steady wind, both beginners and pros get their money's worth.
