About this spot
Tiree, the westernmost of the Inner Hebrides off Scotland's west coast, ranks as one of Britain's windiest yet sunniest places. Nine beaches facing every direction catch the open North Atlantic swell – home to the "Tiree Wave Classic", one of the UK's oldest and biggest wave events.
Wind comes mostly from west, southwest and northwest, strongest and most reliable from September to April. Which beach for which wind? The Maze, west-facing and open to all swell directions, is the Wave Classic's wave spot; Balephuil works in the morning, the big bay of Crossapol in the evening, and Gott Bay's long shallow water makes a beginner and freeride venue. Overall a spot for advanced windsurfers and kiters with wave ambition – cold water included.
