Berlin – Wannsee

Berlin – Wannsee

Germany · Windsurf · SUP

About this spot

In Berlin's southwest, the Wannsee is the capital's largest lake with a real sandy beach and a windsurf and SUP stronghold. Right next to the Strandbad Wannsee lido you'll find surf and sailing schools with full station infrastructure – a few minutes' walk from the car park. You rig on the shore and ride on flat, tide-free Havel freshwater. Depending on the wind direction you can pick a suitable entry across the linked Havel lake system.

Can you kite at the Wannsee? No – kitesurfing is banned on Berlin's waters, because the entire lake network counts as federal waterway. Windsurfing, wingfoil and SUP, however, run without issue. West, southwest and northwest winds come through best, with afternoon thermals in summer. The season runs from April to October. A convenient city spot with schools right at the lido.
