About this spot
In eastern Berlin, the Müggelsee is the city's largest natural lake and a popular windsurf, wingfoil and SUP venue. The wide expanse lets the wind build well; west and southwest directions come through most evenly, with thermal help in summer. The surf and sailing school sits in Köpenick right next to the lido, with good rail and road access. You rig on the shore and ride on flat, tide-free Spree freshwater.
What do you need to know on the Müggelsee? Windsurfing is only allowed with a recognised surf licence (e.g. VDWS), and kitesurfing is banned – as everywhere in Berlin. The lake has a large standing area and is beginner-friendly, but like all inland waters it can be gusty, which makes getting back to shore harder. The season runs from May to the end of September.
