About this spot
Just south of Leipzig, the Markkleeberger See is a flooded former opencast mine and one of the liveliest spots in Leipzig's New Lakeland. Today it's a clean, tide-free freshwater venue with a watersports beach, rental and a school. You rig on the shore and ride on flat water – ideal for beginner windsurfers, wingfoil and SUP.
West and southwest winds come through best. Where can you kite here? For safety reasons kitesurfing is only allowed on the western shore and only in easterly winds – for other wind directions kiters switch to neighbouring New Lakeland lakes. Windsurfing, SUP and sailing run in the designated zones through the April-to-October season. It's a short hop from Leipzig, which makes it a popular after-work spot.
