Müritz – Klink

About this spot
At around 110 square kilometres the Müritz is Germany's largest inland lake and the heart of the Mecklenburg Lake District. The Klink spot sits at the northwest end, where only a few hundred metres separate the Müritz from the Kölpinsee. At Klink beach you rig and launch from the grass into shallow water – the first 60 to 100 metres are waist-deep, ideal for practising and early water starts.
The spot is cleanest in west to northwest winds. When it pushes from WNW to NNW at force 5 or more, a proper inland chop builds over the roughly four kilometres of fetch and rolls in at Klink. Which wind works best here? West and northwest are the classics, and in summer afternoon thermals often add to it. Kite zones around the Müritz are clearly regulated – kiting is not allowed everywhere, as part of the lake belongs to the national park. The lake suits beginners and freeriders alike, with schools based in Waren.
