About this spot
Buen Hombre is a rustic fishing village on the remote northwest coast of the Dominican Republic in Monte Cristi province, surrounded by mountains and barely touched by tourism. An offshore reef shelters a wide, shallow lagoon from the ocean swell; behind it a clean wave breaks over the reef – the original alternative to Cabarete.
The wind is the easterly to northeasterly trade, standing side-onshore across the lagoon. When is the best time for Buen Hombre? Wind blows virtually year-round, most reliably from January to August; the strongest phase is summer (June to September) with averages of 25 to 35 knots.
