About this spot

Wide sandy beach just south of Corralejo, sheltered by the El Jable dunes. Flag Beach is among the most accessible learn-to-kite spots in the Canaries: a flat sandy entry, plenty of room for many riders side by side and mostly smooth-to-light-chop water in summer. The trade wind (Alisios) comes from north to northeast, sits side-shore from the left and is reinforced by a thermal effect off the island.

How reliable is the wind? From May to September it blows very consistently: mornings are often light (6–10 knots), then from early afternoon it builds to a steady 15–20 knots and more. Winter wind and waves are more hit-and-miss, though there is more swell along the coast. The spot suits beginners and improvers; gear and schools sit right on the beach. Corralejo, with restaurants and accommodation, is just a few minutes north.

Insider tips

Plan your main session for the afternoon, when the thermally boosted trade wind kicks in. The rigging and launch area is separated from the swimming zone – rig and launch only in the marked area.

⚠︎ Hazards

The side-shore wind from the left pushes you towards the water rather than onto land if gear fails – do not go further out than you can return. In summer the beach is busy (swimmers, many kiters), keep your distance. More waves and current in winter.
