About this spot

Hiddensee lies west of Rügen, is car-free and only reachable by ferry, for example from Schaprode – the largest island in the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft national park. Vitte sits on a narrow strip between the Bodden and the open Baltic; the surf school opposite the old mill rents gear. The Bodden side on the east of the island is a superb flatwater venue that stays flat even in stronger wind – quiet sessions in a historic setting.

Tide-free Baltic and Bodden: rideable from SW to N. The Bodden side offers flat, sheltered water ideal for windsurf, SUP and practice; the open Baltic side is for advanced riders – in north-west wind and windsurfers get their money's worth, and on stormy days waves over 3 m can stand there. Is the ferry trip worth it? For peace, nature and reliable flat water: yes. Best season is May to September.
