About this spot

Tromper Wiek sweeps in a wide arc of fine sand in front of Breege and Juliusruh – one of the most reliable yet underrated spots on Rügen, on the Wittow peninsula. The north beach of Juliusruh is a kiter hotspot: wide sand, steady wind and, depending on direction, flat water or waves.

This is tide-free Baltic: in W and NW you get flat to choppy water, while northerly directions push waves into the bay. When is Breege/Juliusruh at its best? Often in May/June and September/October with westerly to south-westerly conditions, when it is wind-reliable and not crowded. If you prefer flat water, switch to the nearby Wieker Bodden – one of the windiest flatwater venues in Germany, with marked entry/exit zones for kite and windsurf. So the area covers beginners and advanced riders alike. Main season runs April to October.

Insider tips

North beach Juliusruh for wind and waves; for flat water switch to the nearby Wieker Bodden (separate kite and windsurf zones). Best statistics in May/June and September/October with W/SW.

⚠︎ Hazards

In northerly conditions wave and onshore pressure on the Baltic beach – keep clear of swimmers. On the Wieker Bodden respect the marked kite and windsurf zones.
