About this spot
Jericoacoara, or "Jeri" for short, in the state of Ceará is one of the best-known kitesurfing destinations in Brazil. The village lies in a national park between dunes and sea and can only be reached via sand tracks. The east to south-east trade wind blows very steadily in season, and around Jeri there are spots for every preference – from the wave at the point in front of the village to the kite beach at Preá and inland lagoons such as Lagoa do Paraíso.
When is the best time to visit Jericoacoara? The wind season runs roughly from July to January, with the strongest and most reliable conditions usually from August to November. At around 27 °C the water is warm, so boardshorts and a rash vest are enough. Jeri is also the start or finish point of many downwinders along the Ceará coast.

Insider tips
Many kiters do not ride right at the village but at the beach in Preá a few kilometres east – there is more space there. The lagoons hold the most water after the rainy season (roughly February to June). Only plan downwinders with a buggy or support service. Bring cash, as not all shops and beach bars accept cards.

There are rocks at the point break in front of the village, and surfers are in the water. Strong sun – a rash vest and sun protection are a must. In the lagoons, watch out for shallows and obstacles such as posts.
