About this spot
Taíba is a fishing village on the coast of Ceará, a good 70 kilometres from Fortaleza and near Cumbuco. The spot blends flat water and waves: at the beach, waves break over several sandbars, about 500 metres inland lies the Lagoa Taíba, a hip-deep freshwater lagoon for practising, and on the eastern side of the beach a point break runs with waves reaching 2 to 3 metres depending on the swell.
The wind is the easterly trade, standing side-onshore to slightly onshore from the right. When is the best time for Taíba? From July to December the trade blows steadily at 18 to 32 knots, best from August to November, after which the wind slowly eases. With a lagoon, a downwind run and a point break, Taíba is a versatile venue for advanced kiters and wingfoilers wanting to combine wave and freestyle.
Location
Insider tips
For flat-water freestyle head to the Lagoa Taíba about 500 metres inland; the wave and point break sit on the eastern side of the beach. A downwind run towards Cumbuco is easy to add here.
⚠︎ Hazards
The point break on the eastern side with 2 to 3 metre waves is advanced terrain. Waves break over sandbars at the beach, so watch the bottom and the tides.
