Preá
Brazil · Kitesurf · Windsurf · Wingfoil
About this spot
Preá lies right next to Jericoacoara on a long, open sandy beach in Ceará. The wind hugs the coast and accelerates along it, which makes this strip one of the windiest corners of northeastern Brazil – flat-to-choppy water at the beach plus a continuous obstacle-free corridor towards Jeri.
The wind is the easterly trade, standing cross to cross-onshore from the east. When does Preá get the most wind? From July to January the wind probability sits around 90 percent, often a few knots more than the neighbouring spots, with strengths of 20 to 40 knots and the best window from September to November. Preá is an ideal starting point for the downwinder to Jericoacoara and one of Brazil's top spots for kite, wingfoil and windsurf – from improver to pro.
Location
Insider tips
The obstacle-free coastal strip towards Jeri is perfect for downwinders – as a beginner, book a guided run. For glassy flat water, a trip to the lagoons at Guriu or Tatajuba west of Jeri is worth it.
⚠︎ Hazards
The trade can blow very strongly (up to 40 knots), so size down your gear in good time. The cross-onshore direction is forgiving, but chop and small waves run on the open beach.
