About this spot
Cape Town – Sunset Beach (Milnerton) is a kitesurf, windsurf and surf spot in South Africa. Southernmost kite spot on the Blouberg coast; you set up right on the beach, parking at the first Sunset Beach access from Marine Drive. The main wind is the SE ("Cape Doctor") from about September to April, often better in the morning. The waves are considered more consistent and the water less choppy than at the neighbouring beaches; windsurfers also use the spot. Popular starting point for downwinders heading north (Doodles, Dolphin Beach). Behind the dunes lies the Rietvlei lagoon with flat water (entry at the Milnerton Aquatic Club).
The spot works best with wind from SE, S, SW; the windiest period is Oct–Apr. Depending on the swell there are waves. It suits beginners, intermediates and advanced riders.
