About this spot
Karpathos – Agrilaopotamos (windward spot) is a kitesurf, wingfoil and windsurf spot in Greece. The windward spot at Agrilaopotamos beach on the south-west cape of Karpathos is around 3 km from Afiartis; as kiting is banned on the leeward side, it is the island's kite hotspot. The thermal wind from WNW comes side-onshore from the right, the Meltemi from the NW more sideshore; usually 3–8 kn weaker and less gusty than on the leeward side. Flat water on the inside at 12–25 kn, long swell outside the reef, waves up to 1.5 m with Meltemi lasting several days. On site there is a kite and wing station, a taverna and parking.
The spot works best with wind from NW (thermal); the windiest period is May–Sep. Depending on the wind you get flat water, chop or waves. It suits intermediates and advanced riders.
