About this spot
Crete – Kouremenos (Palekastro) is a kitesurf, wingfoil and windsurf spot in Greece. Kouremenos lies around 3 km north-east of Palekastro in eastern Crete and is considered one of the windiest beaches on the island. In summer the Meltemi blows from the NW and is strengthened by a local venturi effect; on average around 6 Bft, with 4.5–5.3 m² sails commonly used. There are several wind and kite centres with rental on the beach; the centres open roughly from mid-May to October. The water is shallow near the shore and open further out.
The spot works best with wind from N, NW (Meltemi); the windiest period is May–Oct. Expect choppy water most of the time. It suits beginners, intermediates and advanced riders.
