About this spot

Crete – Stomio (near Elafonisi) is a windsurf spot in Greece. Stomio lies around 7 km before Elafonisi in south-west Crete; the NW wind usually arrives in the afternoon, cross-onshore from the right. Thanks to a cape effect, a forecast of 8 kn often turns into 12–20 kn; flat water near the shore, chop of around 0.5 m further out. The spot does not work with a Meltemi from the NE; there is only a bar on site, and parking is along the road.

The spot works best with wind from NW; the windiest period is May–Oct. The water is mostly flat. It suits intermediates and advanced riders.
