About this spot
About 25 kilometres north of Essaouira lies the small fishing village of Moulay Bouzerktoun – Morocco's best-known wave spot and a long-time host of the Morocco Windsurf & Wingfoil Festival. A right-hand wave breaks over a rocky reef slab, with two spots running, one at the foot of the cliffs and one further south at the actual beach.
The wind is the northeast trade, blowing here side-offshore (the "alizé") almost parallel to the coast and strengthening noticeably in summer, reaching 20 to 35 knots depending on the day. When is Moulay at its best? From April to September the trade delivers Africa's most consistent wave-and-wind combination; in spring the swell is often bigger and the wind a touch lighter (4 to 6 Bft). The spot is aimed at advanced windsurfers, wave kiters and wingfoilers chasing clean right-handers.

Insider tips
Respect the side-offshore alizé: any lost gear drifts away from shore out to sea. Booties are essential on the rocky reef slab; the beach south of the main peak offers a slightly kinder entry and exit.
⚠︎ Hazards
Rocky entry and exit across the reef slab – booties recommended. Side-offshore wind and a wave breaking over rock make this advanced terrain.
