About this spot

Fishing village north of Agadir, a surf pilgrimage spot on Morocco's Atlantic coast for decades. Several right-hand point breaks line the surroundings – Anchor Point, Killer Point, Boilers and more. Anchor Point is the icon: a right-hander over 500 m long that fires when a solid northwest swell wraps into the bay and an easterly (offshore) from the NE grooms the wave. The waves break over a rocky bottom, with part of the take-off zone sitting on stone.

When is the best surf season in Taghazout? October to March, when the big NW swells from the North Atlantic roll through; January is the most consistent. Clearly a spot for advanced and experienced surfers.

Location

Insider tips

Anchor Point works best on a mid-to-large NW swell at low to mid tide with NE offshore. On big swell the backwash and current off the rocks are tricky – paddle out early before it gets crowded.

⚠︎ Hazards

Rocky bottom and take-off on stone, strong current and backwash on big swell. It can get crowded and territorial – not a spot for beginners to drop into.
