Imsouane – The Bay

About this spot
The "Bay" (Magic Bay) of Imsouane is, with rides of around 600–700 m, one of the longest right-hand waves in Africa. The point break peels softly and evenly over a sandy bottom with mellow, forgiving shoulders – a classic for longboard cruising and for surfers learning to ride their first long wave. On a small swell the bay is beginner-friendly; on a bigger NW swell it gets longer and more powerful. The offshore wind comes from the east and keeps the wave clean.
When is the best time to visit Imsouane? October to April brings the most consistent Atlantic swells and 1–3 m waves; summer is smaller and warmer, perfect for beginners. Suits all levels.

Insider tips
For the really long wave, wait for a mid NW swell and paddle the line-up up to the peak. Early morning has the least wind and fewest people. A longer board helps to carry through the long flat sections.
⚠︎ Hazards
On a busy day there is heavy traffic on the long wave – respect priority and keep your distance. Rocks at the edge of the bay and by the harbour; more current on big swell.
