About this spot
Palm Beach (Mpenjati) – KwaZulu-Natal is a kitesurf and surf spot in South Africa. Wave spot on the lower south coast of KwaZulu-Natal next to the Mpenjati river mouth, on the edge of a marine protected area. An outer reef breaks the swell; inside, a calm flat-water area remains with a weak shorebreak. Best in S to SW wind and S swell (cold fronts, all year round); NE also works, but then watch out for rocks downwind. You launch at the Palms accommodation or at the Mpenjati river mouth.
The spot works best with wind from SW, S, NE; the windiest period is Jan–Dec. Depending on the wind you get flat water, chop or waves. It suits intermediates and advanced riders.
