Gran Canaria – Pozo Izquierdo

About this spot
On the southeast coast of Gran Canaria, Pozo Izquierdo is one of the windiest spots in Europe thanks to the accelerated trade wind, and a long-standing host of PWA windsurf events. The NE trade is hugely amplified between the island and the African mainland and by the funnel effect along the east coast, blowing side-onshore almost daily – often 25–35 knots, more in gusts. You rig and launch on the rocky shore; on the water there is wind-driven wave for jumps and wave riding.
When is the strongest season? June to September, when the trade is most consistent – small sails around 3.4–4.2 m then. Mornings are often calmer, the wind builds towards the afternoon. A spot for ambitious advanced riders and pros, not for beginners.

Insider tips
Wind often 25–35+ knots – plan for small sails/kites (windsurf often 3.4–4.2 m). Mornings are usually lighter, the punch comes in the afternoon. Mind the lava rocks on entry and exit.
⚠︎ Hazards
Mostly lava rocks at the entry – wear boots and take care getting in and out. Very strong, gusty wind and wave make the spot demanding.
