About this spot

Between Binz and Prora a long sandy beach stretches some 10 km along the east coast of Rügen, in the Prorer Wiek. You rig and launch on the roughly 30 m wide beach with a gentle slope and around 50 m of standing area; from Binz everything is within walking distance, with plenty of promenade flair. You can park at the railway and technology museum, from where it is 300–500 m through heath and dunes to the water.

This is tide-free Baltic: easterly to south-easterly directions deliver clean wind, and an offshore sandbank sorts the wave about 120 m off the beach. Best directions are N through NE to SE; rare strong northerlies bring fat, creamy waves sideonshore from the left that break perfectly on the bank. When can you kite in Binz? In high season the beach is packed with swimmers, so it is usually only safely rideable in the evening. Best time is May to September.
