About this spot

Peninsula west of Emden, opposite the Knock, where the Ems and the Dollart meet open tidal flats. You rig and launch from the foreshore and ride out on the tidal flat – clean west and southwest wind runs in undisturbed across the shallow water. The Dollart is a pure tidal venue: it works roughly three hours before to three hours after high water, and dries out in between. With the water in, depth stays low and big waves rarely form, so you mostly get flat to choppy water – a venue for freeriders who can read current.

When can you kite at Rysumer Nacken? Best inside the tide window around high water from April to October in W/SW/NW. Little traffic, no crowds – an insider spot for experienced East Frisia kiters who know their tides.

Insider tips

Check the tide carefully and ride in the window around high water. Rig on the foreshore, enter via the flats – not a beginner spot.

⚠︎ Hazards

Currents in the Ems estuary are critical: on the ebb the flow pulls towards the North Sea with considerable force. Only go out with experience and solid tide knowledge.
