About this spot
West of Cuxhaven by the Wernerwald forest, looking out to the island of Neuwerk. Sahlenburg is a standing-depth venue: at high water a wide, shallow bay where the water stays waist-deep in many places – at low water the starting point for mudflat hikes to Neuwerk. You rig and launch on the sandy beach and ride out on the bay; good wind directions are SW through NW to NE. From about 5 Beaufort small waves form and add some punch.
When can you kite at Sahlenburg? Roughly two to three hours before and after high water. The kite zone sits between the groynes at the dog beach, separated from the bathing area by a buoy chain. Suitable for all levels; it can get busy in summer. A surfer car park with a time limit matches the usable tide. Season April to October.

⚠︎ Hazards
Tide-dependent; the bay dries out at ebb. Watch for mudflat hikers heading to Neuwerk and avoid the bathing area.
