About this spot
Attica – Schinias (Marathon) is a windsurf spot in Greece. The sheltered sandy bay of Schinias lies by the Schinias-Marathon National Park north-east of Athens. The bay is somewhat shielded from the N wind, but in summer a local thermal wind usually provides wind even when it is calm elsewhere. The Moraitis windsurf club (since 1979) offers rental and lessons daily in summer; other clubs are located along the bay. Karavi beach in the municipality of Marathon has held the Blue Flag for years.
The spot works best with wind from S, SE (thermal); the windiest period is May–Sep. The water is mostly flat. It suits beginners, intermediates and advanced riders.
