About this spot
Tarnewitzer Huk is a spit of land near Boltenhagen where West Mecklenburg's large kite area starts, running on towards Wismar and the island of Poel. The appeal is two sides on one peninsula. The outer side, facing the open Baltic, builds short wave and chop in onshore wind; the inner side, in the lagoon, holds flat, sheltered water – a genuine local tip on the Mecklenburg coast.
This is tide-free Baltic: in W, SW and S you find the right water depending on which side you choose, from flat water for practice to choppy bump-and-jump. What makes Tarnewitzer Huk special? That in the same conditions you can pick between flat and wavy – which makes it rideable for beginners and advanced riders alike. Access is via Tarnewitz with a car park right behind the dyke and short walks to rig. Part of the Huk is a nature reserve and closed off, and the wind and current around the capes should not be underestimated. Main season runs April to October.
