About this spot
Pelzerhaken sits on a peninsula in the north of Lübeck Bay, southeast of Neustadt in Holstein. From the lighthouse eastwards runs a wide belt of sandbanks: the water stays standing-depth for up to roughly 600 metres – a huge shallow bathtub with little wave, popular with families, beginners and freestylers. Between the two lighthouses stretches a broad sandy beach with solid infrastructure, schools, rental and a promenade.
As the spot lies in the west of the bay, it works especially in onshore N and NW; in east wind water is pushed into the bay and early summer often adds thermal help. When is the best time to visit? April to October, with May often delivering stable wind. Note: strong west wind drains water out of the bay and the bathtub gets shallower.

Insider tips
Onshore N/NW fills the bathtub and gives clean standing water far out. In strong west wind the water level in the shallows drops – then take care, it quickly turns deep/empty further out. Schools and club areas are at the new car park.
⚠︎ Hazards
In strong west wind water drains from the bay and the standing area gets shallower – do not overestimate yourself. In strong NE chop can roll in, then it is more of a windsurf day.
