About this spot

Scharbeutz and Haffkrug just to the north share a long promenade and a fine, gently shelving sandy beach – a classic Lübeck Bay setup for the Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein crowd. The bottom is mostly sand, the entry shallow, and the wave stays small to chop. That makes the spot friendly for beginners, SUP and relaxed wing sessions.

When does Scharbeutz work? Onshore and most usable, the wind comes from NE, N and E – then the bay builds a small, even wave. West blows offshore and gusty off the land and is better left to experienced riders. Rig and launch on the beach; the riding is out on the water. Summer is the main course season, while spring and autumn bring the windier days. If you want to dodge the bustle of Timmendorf, you find a similar, often quieter bay setup here.
