About this spot
The Bostalsee in the northern Saarland is the largest leisure lake in southwest Germany. It sits on a plateau between gentle hills, which gives the wind a clear run – southerly to westerly directions come through especially steadily. The main spot is in the bay at Gonnesweiler on the northeastern shore, where the schools and rental are based. You rig on the shore and ride on flat, tide-free freshwater.
Who is the lake for? Mainly beginner windsurfers, wingfoilers and SUP fans, though the plateau location can serve up demanding, gusty conditions for experienced surfers too. The season runs from April to October, with thermal help on summer afternoons. Kitesurfing is not permitted on the Bostalsee – it's a windsurf, wingfoil and SUP venue only.

Insider tips
Kitesurfing is not permitted on the Bostalsee. Main spot and schools are in the bay at Gonnesweiler on the northeastern shore; south to west winds work best.
⚠︎ Hazards
The plateau makes the wind gusty – allow a safety margin when gusts build. Deep, cool freshwater; in offshore wind mind your distance to shore.
