Dahab – Masbat
Egypt · Kitesurf · Windsurf · Wingfoil
About this spot
Dahab lies on the Sinai Peninsula on the west coast of the Gulf of Aqaba. Because the wind is squeezed down the narrow gulf, it is often windier here than at other Egyptian spots. Masbat is the town's central bay, set between Assala and the Lighthouse – a lively diving and surf town on the reef.
The windsurf and kite zones are structured by reefs: flat water sits inside, ideal for freestyle, speed and technique. Beyond Napoleon Reef the open sea opens up with swell that can run to several metres – a good introduction to wave riding for advanced sailors. Is there a wave here too? Yes, beyond the reef; in its shelter it stays flat. The wind is mostly thermal from the north, with a "sunset wind" noticeable in the early morning and late afternoon.
Best season is roughly April to October, most consistent and strongest in high summer.

Insider tips
Stay inside, before Napoleon Reef, for flat water and freestyle; only head beyond the reef into open water for wave sailing. The late-afternoon "sunset wind" often delivers a second session.
⚠︎ Hazards
Sharp reef and shallow patches – wear shoes and only cross reef passages with enough water. Open sea with current sits behind the reef; offshore phases call for caution.
