About this spot

Katharinenhof sits on Fehmarn's northeast coast, with a cliff line and a wide bay that opens to the east. In N and NE conditions cleanly rolling Baltic swell builds here – this is Fehmarn's true wave spot, far quieter than the well-known venues in the south. You can park up at the cliff; the entry is east of it. The spot rewards you when the wind really blows; on light days not much happens here.

Does Katharinenhof also work flatter? Yes – the spots along the southeast coast around Wulfen and Katharinenhof also offer standing areas and calmer water in southerly conditions, but they are less known and therefore often emptier. Rig and launch up top or on the beach; the riding is on the wave. The wave season falls in the windy half-year from autumn to spring – then with a wetsuit and experience, as the water is cold and the conditions are rough.

Insider tips

Park up at the cliff, enter east of it. Best wave in N/NE with strong wind; in light wind it is barely worth it. For flatter water switch to southerly conditions.

⚠︎ Hazards

Cliff coast and rough waves, cold water in autumn and winter – only with experience, reliable gear and a wetsuit. Be cautious with any offshore component.
