About this spot

Gold sits on the south side of Fehmarn and is essentially a large standing-water area: the water rarely gets deeper than about 1.5 metres, the bottom is sandy and the entry is shallow. That makes the spot especially beginner- and family-friendly and popular with wingfoilers too. Gold works best in westerly wind – SW blows sideshore from the left, and in NW you can ride toward Lemkenhafen. From around 20 knots a small wave up to roughly one metre builds, ideal for safely practising first jumps. Only pure east wind is offshore, sheltered and gusty.

When is the best time to visit? The windy season runs April to October. There is room to rig and launch on the beach, with a designated kite zone in the standing area to the right of the entry.

Location

Insider tips

Best set-up in W/SW – sideshore with the full standing area in play. Pure east wind is offshore, gusty and sheltered – then take safety-boat cover or another spot. The designated kite zone is in the standing area to the right of the entry.

⚠︎ Hazards

In offshore east wind it is gusty and sheltered – safety-boat cover recommended. In strong wind from 20 knots a wave builds and the standing area gets choppier.
