About this spot

At Fehmarn's southwestern tip, around the Flügge lighthouse and the Orth roadstead, lies one of the island's friendliest flat-water venues. The standing area on the west side reaches roughly to the imaginary line between the harbour mole and the lighthouse – perfect for practising. Kiters have their own launch area on the east side, to the left at the end of the bay; because the Orth roadstead is too shallow for many windsurfers, kiters are often among themselves here.

Which wind works at Flügge? Northerly directions are best, and S/SW/W also work with a quick entry and lots of water space. In west to northwest you can ride around the Krummsteert and find good wave conditions in front of the lighthouse with the wind from the right. Rig and launch on the beach; the riding is out on the water. In more wind the flat water turns into a chop field – then it gets interesting for advanced riders too. Season is the whole windy half-year; relaxed learning sessions in summer, strong wind in spring and autumn.

Insider tips

Large standing area on the west side between mole and lighthouse – great for learning. Kiters launch on the east side to the left at the end of the bay. In W/NW a wave in front of the lighthouse.

⚠︎ Hazards

In stronger wind the flat water gets choppy. Watch for swimmers and the nature protection at the Orth roadstead; around the Krummsteert mind the bottom and current.
