About this spot

The west side of the island of Föhr: a shallow, sheltered Wadden Sea area where the coastline accelerates the westerly wind. Utersum runs excellently in west, southwest and northwest, and the shallow water makes for fast learning. Even at low water a roughly 5 km long, 30 m wide channel running north–south stays rideable – a speed strip in mirror-flat water for long runs in west or east wind. You rig up on the grass strip behind the dyke. A calm alternative to Sylt when conditions there are too rough.

When is the best time to visit Föhr? The wind-reliable months of spring and autumn; in summer the water is pleasantly warm.
