About this spot
Hohwacht Bay sits between the Kiel Fjord and Fehmarn, a generous, shallow venue with a long sandy beach. That is exactly what makes it a friendly Baltic learning spot: wide shallow-water zones plus a long-established watersports school that has been teaching here since the mid-1980s. At Alt-Hohwacht the standing area reaches out roughly 200 m, in the south of the bay an even larger shallow field opens up, while at the town beach itself the standing area is smaller and shared with swimmers.
Which wind works at Hohwacht? From northwest through north to east the wind reaches the bay unobstructed, with NW often giving clean sideshore conditions. Rig and launch on the beach; the riding is on the water. Spring and autumn bring the steadier northeasterlies – and it is noticeably more relaxed here than in Lübeck Bay. Ideal for beginners and improvers on kite, wing and windsurf.
