About this spot

At around 30 square kilometres, Lake Plön (Großer Plöner See) is the largest lake in Schleswig-Holstein, set in the rolling Holstein Switzerland. The best-known surf access is Fegetasche on the eastern shore near Plön, plus beaches around Ascheberg to the west. You rig on the shore and ride on flat to lightly choppy freshwater – tide-free, no salt, framed by woods and beech forest.

West, southwest and northwest winds come through best; in summer the thermal helps. When is the best season? April to October, with the strongest days in spring and autumn as frontal systems pass. The lake suits beginners and freeriders for windsurf, wingfoil and SUP; kiting is possible depending on the shore zone – check local rules on site. A classic Holstein lake for relaxed day sessions.
