About this spot

The seaside resort of Hua Hin on the Gulf of Thailand is the country's kitesurf classic. In the main season – driven by the northeast monsoon and, from February on, increasingly by thermal sea breezes – the wind reliably brings 12–20, on good days up to 25 knots in the afternoon over the long, gently shelving sandy beach. The beach runs more than 5 km, offering plenty of room and ideal conditions for relaxed downwinders. The water is choppy with small waves and deeper further out; at 28–30 °C no wetsuit is needed.

When is the best time to visit Hua Hin? The main season runs from November to May, most reliable from mid-January to May with the thermal afternoon breezes. A forgiving beginner spot.

Location

Insider tips

The wind usually only gets going properly in the afternoon (from around 1 pm) – plan sessions accordingly. From November to March high tide shrinks the beach considerably; in south wind it becomes much wider.

⚠︎ Hazards

At high tide the beach can get tight for rigging. Choppy, deeper water offshore; offshore phases are possible. Otherwise a forgiving spot.
