About this spot

Juist, the "Töwerland", is at 17 km the longest East Frisian island – car-free, narrow, with steady North Sea wind. You kite in designated zones of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park: on the Nordstrand beyond the recreation zone from three hours after sunrise, and on the south side in the tidal window three hours before to three hours after high water (01 Apr–31 Oct). You rig and launch on the beach or at the school on the Nordstrand; depending on the water level, wide tidal channels offer shallow practice water.

The main wind is W, NW and SW. How do you get to Juist? By ferry from Norddeich, around 90 minutes – sailings follow the tide, so plan for gear transport. On the car-free island everything runs at an easy pace. Suits intermediates and experienced kiters; season April to October.
